IL 12-HETE: Chi è questo Mostro?

Il 12-HETE è una sostanza cattiva che si forma nell’organismo quando siamo stressati e infiammati; il 12-HETE viene prodotto dalle piastrine del sangue aumentandone l’aggregazione piastrinica ed il rischio di trombi; Inoltre il 12-HETE aumenta la percezione del dolore e aumenta il flusso sanguigno nella zona tumefatta in cui si è verificato un trauma.

Il 12-HETE prodotto a livello cutaneo, può favorire il prurito e l’infiammazione. Pare che nei tessuti infiammati a causa della psoriasi, viene prodotta localmente molto 12-HETE.

Il 12-HETE aumenta la permeabilità dei vasi ai globuli bianchi, favorendo l’infiltrazione leucocitaria che dai vasi sanguigni passano nel tessuto infiammato.

Il 12-HETE viene prodotto da alcuni tumori per favorire l’angiogenesi e le metastasi: Pare che il 12-HETE prodotto dalle cellule tumorali, rendono permeabili i vasi sanguigni, per diffondere dal sangue ad altri tessuti e provocare metastasi.

Insomma il 12-HETE è una sostanza brutta e bisogna limitare la sua produzione.

Cosa fare per ridurre e neutralizzare il 12-HETE?

Innanzi tutto bisogna capire chi produce questa sostanza:

Il 12-HETE viene prodotto dall’acido grasso omega-6 (acido arachidonico) che si accumula nelle membrane cellulari delle nostre cellule.

Più oli di semi di girasole e mais consumate, e più si forma e accumula nell’organismo acido arachidonico che può trasformarsi in 12-HETE.

Quindi la prima cosa da fare è limitare il consumo di grassi ricchi di omega-6, come l’olio di mais, l’olio di girasole ed i grassi degli animali allevati in modo industriale (lardo di maiale, tuorli d’uovo di galline non biologici, etc).

Inoltre è utilissimo abbassare l’acido arachidonico, utilizzando alimenti ricchi di omega-3 e poveri di omega-6, come l’Olio di pesce, il pesce grasso e le noci. L’olio extravergine di oliva, pur avendo modeste quantità di omega-3, è una fonte ricca di acido oleico e polifenoli ed è quindi un grasso buono, da usare a crudo.

Poi bisogna fare in modo che venga inibito l’enzima che trasforma l’acido arachidonico in 12-HETE. Come si chiama questo enzima?

L’enzima si chiama ALOX12, (anche noto come 12-Lox, 12(s)-lipoxygenase o arachidonato-12-Lipossigenasi) ed indicato con la sigla EC 1.13.11.31.

Alcune ricerche sostengono che la Curcumina contenuta nella curcuma longa, è in grado di rallentare l’attività enzimatica della ALOX12.

La Curcuma inibendo l’enzima ALOX12, riduce la formazione di 12-HETE, contribuendo a ridurre l’infiammazione ed il dolore.

Infine alcune ricerche indicano che la Curcumina è in grado di stimolare l’espressione genica della Glutatione trasferasi, un potente enzima che spazza via il 12-HETE, contribuendo a ridurre l’infiammazione.

Conclusioni

Il 12-HETE è un mediatore dell’infiammazione, del dolore, del prurito e dell’angiogenesi;

il 12-HETE viene prodotto dall’attività enzimatica della ALOX12 (EC 1.13.11.31), che trasforma l’acido arachidonico (un omega-6 presente in alcuni oli e grassi), in 12-HETE.

Per ridurre con l’alimentazione la formazione di 12-HETE, occorre integrare la dieta con:

  1. Olio di pesce omega-3 ricco di EPA + DHA
  2. Usare come olio alimentare preferibilmente l’olio extravergine di oliva a crudo
  3. Ridurre l’uso di oli di semi di girasole e mais, noti per essere ricchi in omega-6, e limitare il consumo di grassi animali e tuorli d’uovo di allevamenti industriali in quanto ricchi di acido arachidonico precursore del 12-HETE.
  4. Integrare la dieta con la curcumina, noto per la capacità di inibire l’enzima ALOX12 che trasforma l’acido arachidonico in 12-HETE; la curcumina inoltre è in grado di indurre l’espressione genica della glutatione trasferasi che a sua volta neutralizza la 12-HETE a mezzo delò glutatione.
